Congress moving to prevent sale of phone records

This story has been building to a frenzy for the last couple of weeks and it looks like Congress is finally moving to do something about it. If you haven’t been paying attention, several websites are offering for sale anyone’s home or cell phone records, incoming and outgoing. It is reported that these websites obtain the records illegally by impersonating the phone owner or by setting up unauthorized accounts on the phone company’s website.

Senators Charles Schumer, Arlen Specter, and Bill Nelson have introduced the Consumer Telephone Records Protection Act of 2006, which would prevent this practice.
